NFC Wristbands

Festival and event wristbands with NFC for payment, access and personalised content.

NFC wristbands for festivals, conferences and events

NFC wristbands have become the standard for professional event organisers in Switzerland and Europe in recent years. They replace classic paper and plastic tickets, simplify the access process and enable cashless payment directly from the wrist. Smart Giveaway supplies organisers, agencies and companies with configurable NFC wristbands in silicone or fabric, available as single-use or multi-use variants. Each wristband carries an NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 chip that can be individually encoded and is compatible with any modern smartphone.

The technology works without an app. Visitors simply hold the wristband up to a reader or smartphone, and the stored data record is transmitted within milliseconds. For organisers, this means shorter waiting times at entry, bar and cloakroom, lower staffing requirements and a significantly better data basis for marketing and evaluation. Manufacturing is carried out to Swiss quality standards, with acceptance and chip programming in Lucerne. Minimum order quantities start at 250 units, with larger volumes from 5,000 units being typical for festival projects.

Cashless payment, access control and content access in one product

A single NFC wristband can simultaneously fulfil three functions. First, access control at one or more checkpoints, including VIP areas, backstage zones or early-bird slots. Second, the cashless payment system, in which credit is topped up online in advance or reloaded during the event. Third, access to exclusive digital content, such as artist interviews, setlists, photo galleries or aftermovies, unlocked only with the wristband.

The cashless integration is handled via a backend that can be connected to existing POS systems such as Lightspeed, Gastrofix, TCPOS or custom solutions. Smart Giveaway works with established technology partners and supplies the wristbands including encoding and serialisation. The payment data is stored on servers in Switzerland or the EU in compliance with GDPR and FADP. Transaction times average 300 milliseconds per purchase, which translates into a measurable throughput gain at a festival bar.

Silicone or fabric, single-use or multi-use

The choice of material depends on the type of event. Silicone wristbands are waterproof, sweat-resistant and insensitive to mechanical stress. They are suited to open-air festivals, sports events, pool parties and anything that takes place outdoors or in extreme conditions. The surface can be printed by pad or tampon print, or alternatively laser-engraved. Colour adjustments to Pantone specifications are possible from 1,000 units.

Fabric wristbands made of woven polyester look more premium and are preferred for conferences, corporate events, award shows and premium festivals. Closure is by a single-use sliding element made of plastic or aluminium, which guarantees tamper resistance. Multi-use wristbands use a reclosable magnetic or click fastener, which can be reprogrammed and reused for follow-up events as needed. This reduces unit costs in the long term and shrinks the ecological footprint.

Data protection, technology and the process of a wristband project

The NFC chips used do not store personal data directly. Instead they store a unique UID and optionally an encrypted reference to the backend. The link to ticket, credit or access right is made only in the backend. The process is GDPR-compliant and conforms to the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection in its current 2023 version. On request, Smart Giveaway documents the entire processing chain for the client’s compliance department.

The typical project timeline lasts four to six weeks. After the briefing, we develop a concept with material, print motif, encoding logic and connection to the payment or access system. This is followed by production, encoding and shipping to the event location. For short-term projects, shorter lead times of two to three weeks are feasible, provided the motif and the technical configuration are finalised. Prices range between CHF 0.80 and CHF 6.50 per wristband depending on quantity, material and functional scope. We prepare precise quotes on request within 48 hours.
